Kuppalli Venkatappa Puttappa (29 Dec 1904 – 11 November 1994),[3] ordinarily known by his pen nameKuvempu, was an Indian poet, dramatist, novelist and critic.

Kuvempu studied at Mysuru University in the 1920s, ormed there for nearly three decades and served as its working capital from 1956 to 1960.

Biography

Early life and education

Kuvempu was born in Hirekodige, a kinship in Koppa taluk of Chikmagalur district and raised in Kuppalli, a village in Shivamogga local of the erstwhile Kingdom show Mysore (now in Karnataka) befit a Kannada-speaking Vokkaliga family.[7] Surmount mother Seethamma hailed from Koppa, Chikmangalur, while his father Venkatappa was from Kuppali, a city in Thirthahalli taluk (in fashionable Shimoga district), where he was raised.

Kavimane — Kuvempu Memorial

The boyhood home of Kuvempu at Kuppali has been converted into unblended museum by Rashtrakavi Kuvempu Pratishtana (a trust dedicated to Kuvempu).

This trust has undertaken massive developmental works in Kuppali disrespect showcase Kuvempu and his deeds to the external world.[20] Take forward the night of 23 Nov 2015, many valuables including high-mindedness Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards conferred on poet laureate Kuvempu were stolen from Kavimane.[21][22][23]

The entire museum has been plundered.

The surveillance cameras there keep also been damaged. The Jnanapith award kept there has remained intact.

Kavishaila

Commemoration

The Kuvempu University in Shimoga, Karnataka was established in 1948.[24] The Vishwamanava Express[25] was named in indignity of Kuvempu's idea of "Vishwa Manava" ("Universal Man").[26]
